welcomed everyone to the Lodge of Lights No 148 Candlelit Dinner. He thanked everyone for their support and expressed his and Christine’s delight in being able to welcome so many friends, old and new, to such a happy occasion and hope everyone would have an enjoyable evening.

The Candlelit Dinner, being the last major function of Gwilym’s year in office as master and also being a very important event in the annual calendar of the lodge, was held at Warrington Masonic Hall.

The event was well supported by over 85 guests and members. It was, as ever, well organised and planned by the ‘Joint Lodge and Ladies’ Social Committee’, with every detail being taken into account. The evening was under the direction of Eric Delamere.

Grace was offered by the chaplain Ken Smith, and was followed by an excellent five course banquet which consisted of a fruit platter with ginger, plaice Veronique, roast turkey with traditional accompaniments, a trio of puddings and finished with cheese and biscuits, all served with a selection of red and white wines. Tea or coffee with mints completed the meal. All present were very complimentary about the quality of food offered and the service at the tables. Ken Smith returned thanks and Gwilym proposed the loyal toast.

Gwilym presented his lady with a gift from the lodge which was a Tiffany bracelet, as a memento of the evening and the stewards then distributed the ladies’ gifts. Table prizes were drawn and distributed.Gwilym presented Irene Range, the IPM’s wife, with a bouquet of flowers, which she was delighted to receive.

The minimal formal proceedings being complete, Eric Delamere handed control over to Denis Horan. Denis sang and entertained everyone throughout the meal and this was very well received with many joining in with the singing between courses.

Following a very short break, Denis changed his mode of entertainment into a dancing ‘vibe’, both with live vocal and disco music. His music proved to be very popular with many people continuing to dance until late. The event was very successful and enjoyed by all.

Gwilym closed the evening by thanking everyone both individually and collectively for their support throughout the year. He also wished everyone a safe journey home and the season’s greetings for Christmas and the New Year.
