An overcast and breezy afternoon could not chill the spirit and enthusiasm of over 30 participants and spectators for the Warrington Temple Lodge No 6420 annual bowling event.
Abilities ranged from novice through to experienced players as the event commenced with groups of four in a ‘round robin’ style competition mixing the competitors together.
The event, organised by Alan Greggs and Derek Hazlehurst was hosted by members of Warrington Temple Lodge at the Spinner and Bergamot, which is a typical old English style village public house situated in the village of Cumberbatch, in the heart of the Cheshire countryside and provides an excellent venue for this type of event.
Coaching from the more experienced players meant a close competition ensued, interspersed with laughter and cheers from players and spectators as the bowlers played out some superb ends.
Towards the end of the afternoon Alan and Derek were a little concerned as the rain clouds started to gather overhead. Fortunately, they held off as the bowling finished and everyone gathered in the pub for a sumptuous buffet and drinks with prizes awarded to the winners.
The eventual winners were John Moreton and Jim Wilcox with Jan O’Neil winning the prize for the highest scoring player. A raffle was organised along with some side attractions which raised £156 for charity.
Alan and Derek thanked everyone for attending and hoped that they had enjoyed the afternoon.
