Warrington Masonic Hall again hosted the annual autumn social to celebrate the start of the new Masonic season for the Lodge of Lights No 148. The social is now an established and regular event to mark the end of the summer recess and the start of a new season. The event was well planned as usual by the joint ladies and social committee led by Dave Tabron as social secretary. It has established itself as an ideal way to start the new Masonic season by meeting up with old friends, welcoming new ones and generating funds for charity, enjoying a good meal in great company and above all having some fun.
George Range, WM of the lodge, opened the evening by extending a warm welcome to everyone and he hoped that an enjoyable evening would follow. Over 70 members and guests enjoyed an excellent three course carvery meal, with grace being offered by Rev Mike Finlay, the acting chaplain
Two raffles, one with many quality prizes and the always popular bumper basket of alcoholic beverages were the main fund raisers of the evening. The main prize was won by Gill Rogers and with the bumper basket being very heavy was ably assisted by Andy Wilkinson her impending husband to be.
Entertainment followed the meal with dancing to ‘Coast’, a four piece band who played an excellent mix of music to suit everyone’s taste, but mainly focusing on the 1960’s, including country and western and a selection of popular music of the period.
The event was very successful and enjoyed by all. A magnificent sum of over £630 was raised for charity.
Having achieved all the set objectives, George closed the evening by thanking everyone for their kind support and generosity. He also wished everyone a safe journey home.
