The companions of Elias Ashmole Chapter No 148 were honoured and delighted to receive Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals Barry Jameson PGStdB and Chairman of Warrington Group Andy Barton, along with Jack Forsyth, Dennis Rudd, Stan Churm and Frank Davies. They were supported by acting Provincial grand officer John Aitken. 35 members and guests witnessed the installation of Dennis Wilding into the first principal’s chair.
The chapter was opened for business by Andrew Anderson, the installing first principal and the usual administration duties undertaken. The distinguished guest was then received by the three principals and Andrew extended his warm welcome to all the dignitaries and all the visitors. He continued by hoping they would have an enjoyable evening.
Dennis Wilding was presented to Andrew to receive at his hand the benefit of installation as first principal with David Tabron being installed as second principal and Gary Oates being installed as third principal.
Dennis Pearson delivered the robe address to the first principal; Keith Dickinson delivered the robe address to the second principal and Dennis Pearson delivered the robe address to the third principal. Dennis Wilding then duly appointed and invested his officers for the ensuing year.
Derek Bowden delivered the address to the three principals; Jeff Brooks delivered the address to the officers and Barry Jameson the address to the members of the chapter. All addresses were delivered with great dignity and humility in an exemplary manner.
The installation ceremony being completed, Barry stood to bring the greetings of the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, who he said would have been delighted to witness such a ceremony and particularly the work done by Andrew, in such fine fashion. Barry went on to thank the three principals for taking office, congratulating them on their appointments. He also made reference to the excellent ceremony and congratulated Gwilym Jones as DC.
Dennis responded by thanking Barry for his kind words and proudly presented him with charity donations totalling £300, £200 to the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity and £100 to the Coronary Care Unit of the Warrington General Hospital. Barry thanked Dennis for the generous donations saying it was a credit to all the members who had generated such a magnificent amount for charity. He stated it would give him great pleasure in forwarding the donations to the beneficiaries and thanked everyone on their behalf.
Following the ceremony everyone enjoyed an excellent four course festive board which consisted of egg mayonnaise, cod mornay, pot roast beef with onion gravy and roast potatoes with vegetables and fresh fruit salad with ice cream. This was served with red or white wine and followed by tea or coffee.
Barry responded to the toast to his health by congratulating Andrew and all the officers taking part in the ceremony. He also congratulated the three new principals and the new officers and hoped they would have a productive and enjoyable year. He thanked the group officials for their support in attending and John Gregory for the work undertaken throughout the year and particularly tonight.
He continued by extending his thanks to John Aitken for his support in attending as acting Provincial grand officer. Finally he offered a reminder to all present regarding the date of the Provincial Grand Chapter in Southport.
A raffle was held which generated a magnificent sum of £80 for charity. The evening was brought to a close by the janitor’s toast.
