The installation meeting of Gilbert Greenall Chapter No 1250 to install John Knowles into the first principal’s chair was well attended by over 50 members and guests. The chapter was opened in the traditional style by Norman Pritchard the installing first principal and the usual administration duties were undertaken.
The chapter was very highly honoured by the presence of Deputy Grand Superintendent Danny Jones PGSwdB, accompanied by Barry Jameson Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals, along with grand officers and acting Provincial grand officers, including Stan Churm, Frank Davies, Neil MacSymons, Mike Harrison, Bob Duff, Tom Prince, Tony Hall, Peter Locket, John Aitken, Mike Hamilton and Andy Barton (group chairman) who were admitted in true ceremonial style.
Norman welcomed Danny and all of the grand and Provincial grand officers present, saying he was delighted and honoured to receive so many distinguished guests and such a large number of acting officers from Provincial Grand Chapter. He wished everyone present a most enjoyable evening. Danny thanked Norman and all the companions for their very warm welcome.
John Knowles was then installed as first principal of the chapter, his second time in that office, by the installing and retiring first principal Norman. John Walkey was installed as second principal in true traditional form. The third principal designate could not be installed due to him being away on business. The robe address to the first principal was given by Graham Sherwood, address to the second principal by John Knowles.
At the end of an exemplary ceremony, it gave Danny great pleasure on his own behalf and on behalf of the Provincial Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, to congratulate both principals on being installed in the chairs of the chapter and he wished them good health and happiness for an enjoyable year in office.
Danny went on to congratulate Norman as installing first principal and Keith Young as director of ceremonies. John presented Danny with three cheques, which included donations to St Rocco’s Hospice £200, West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity Fund £300 and Warrington Masonic Hall £200, which totalled £700 for charities.
Thanking John for the most generous donations Danny said: “It was a credit to all the members who had generated such a magnificent amount for charity.” He stated it would give him great pleasure in forwarding the donations to the beneficiaries and thanked everyone on their behalf.
After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed an excellent four course festive banquet consisting of Florentine baked eggs, pot roast beef with onion gravy, fresh fruit salad and a selection of cheeses. Red or white wine accompanied the meal which was followed by tea or coffee.
Following the banquet Danny in response to the toast to his health, thanked the chapter companions for their good wishes and hospitality. He again passed on the good wishes of Tony Harrison and himself to the two principals installed and the third principal designate upon his installation at some point in the future. He wished them health and happiness for a successful year ahead. Danny also commented on the charity donations made and the pending festival. He continued by thanking the Provincial team for supporting him, Neil MacSymons for his work as DC and John Starkey (group publicity officer).
At this point Norman Pritchard presented a personal donation to Danny for £200 to go to Claire House Children’s Hospice. Danny received the cheque saying how wonderful the donation was and to such a worthy cause. Norman indicated that there may be more in the year. A raffle was held which generated a magnificent sum of £158 for charity. The very enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the janitor’s toast.
