At the April meeting of the Lodge of Lights No148 John Roberts was able to celebrate his 90th birthday on the actual date of the meeting. After opening the lodge John Starkey, (worshipful master) congratulated John upon achieving such a milestone. The assembled members responded in the traditional West Lancashire manner. John had celebrated with his family the evening before the meeting at one of his favourite restaurants and was taken by surprise at the celebrations in the lodge. After the business of the evening, which had been an initiation, had ended, a cake was presented to him by the WM at the festive board. The brethren then gave a spirited rendition of “Happy Birthday” much to John’s delight. Everybody was given a piece of cake and he was heard to say that it had been ‘a marvellous evening’.
