Ben Whitmore is the first of three new members of Newton Lodge No 6288 to attain his third degree and his proud father David Whitmore (secretary), played a major role in the ceremony by acting as worshipful master.

The ceremony was expertly undertaken by several members and visitors of the lodge and chaired by Norman Holliday WM. It was a very sincere and emotional experience for both father and son, which they both enjoyed greatly.

Norman opened the lodge in the first degree and then conducted the usual administration. The lodge was opened in the second degree and at this point David took the chair and proceeded to ask Ben the usual questions, which he answered with great confidence. The lodge was opened in the third degree whilst Ben was prepared, he then presented as a candidate to be raised to the third degree.

David conducted the ceremony up to a convenient point, at which time Charles Carr took over and continued with a seamless transition. Following on, Rod Wilson completed the traditional history, signs and working tools of the degree.

The ceremony being completed, Norman returned to the chair and subsequently closed the lodge.

Following the meeting the lodge was joined by St Oswald Lodge No 5170 for a joint social board.

Both father and son are looking forward to working together to support the lodge
